The Fraser Highlanders once again proudly opened the 2024 edition of ScotFest, a festival of everything Scottish at Town Centre Park in Coquitlam on 15 June. The Fraser Highlanders opened ScotFest with the cannon Friday afternoon. Saturday brought a real atmosphere of Scotland, traditional Scottish weather (sunny and very rainy and windy) especially around noon when once again the Frasers fired the cannon, in a heavy downpour. The afternoon brightened up and there were many visitors present to learn the history of the 78th Frasers and the role the Fraser Highlanders in colonial Canada. There were many demonstration firings of the Brown Bess Land Pattern Musket which delighted the crowd, and great talks by President OiC Jim Barrett and Capt Chris Hoskin. The Fraser Highlanders (Fort Fraser Garrison) attended the HIghland Games held in Victoria over the Victoria Day weekend. The Gun Crew led by President / OIC Jim Barrett, Captain Chris Hoskins, Lt. John Hooker, and Hon. Lt. Col. Mike Redmond fired the Regimental cannon as part of the many events featured at the 161st Highland Games held at Topaz Park, Victoria.
The Fraser Highlanders heeded the call to Dinner at Bessborough Armoury on 13 April to commemorate the Battle of Ste Foy (27 April 1760). The battle which was fought under the leadership of General James Murray had at first some success during the two hour conflict, but advancing French troops to the British flanks and British cannon running out of ammunition lead to defeat. The15th Foot lost 138 out of 386 soldiers of all ranks, or 34% casualties Three-quarters of the officers of the Fraser Highlanders (78th) were killed or wounded. The Battle of Sainte-Foy was one of the bloodiest engagements ever fought on Canadian soil.The 78th Fraser Highlanders would return to battle in September 1760 with the Montreal Campaign. The 78th Fraser Highlanders were front and present at this year's well attended Celtic Fest hosted by the Surrey Museum in Cloverdale. Held annually for over 15 years, the celebration of all things Celtic brings visitors into celebrating all things Celtic. The 78th Fraser Highlanders greeted many visitors with the heritage and history of the 78th Fraser Highlanders and our place in colonial Canadian history. Displays included the British smooth bore Land Pattern Musket - the "Brown Bess" (1722-1850s) a flintlock pistol, and other arnaments carried by the 78th Fraser Highlanders in conflict. The Annual Whisky Tasting Fundraiser of the 78 th Fraser Highlanders, Fort Fraser Garrison, was hosted by Jim and Patricia Barrett at “The Barrett Bunker” in Coquitlam, a magnificent venue for such a popular event. The early evening was enjoyed to the fullest with excellent snacks, an amazing selection of notable whiskies and the usual camaraderie. Congratulations and many thanks to the 78 th Fraser Highlanders, Jim and Patricia Barrett, for such a wonderful evening!

Kidsafe Vancouver
When school is out, Kidsafe is in! Kidsafe provides vulnerable children with the safety, supervision, nutritious meals and educational programming they need and deserve but lack access to due to their challenging life circumstances. The 78th Fraser Highlanders are very proud to support KidSafe and their work to provide a place while school is out for Vancouver children. 		Heritage Fairs (Vancouver) Fraser Highlander Mark Dwor giving our cheque to the Vancouver Heritage Fairs for $600. The Fair encourage students in Vancouver schools to take an interest in Canadian history in Vancouver Heritage Fairs where Grade 7 students in Vancouver are inspired to study and write about Canadian history. The students then create presentations and projects similar to a school science fair. The presentation and project highlights their chosen aspect of Canadian history or culture and present their project to their classmates, parents and community.
Congratulations to the essay winners of the 78th Fraser Highlanders' Prize for Scottish-Canadian History"! Ms Julia Gabriel won 1st place for her essay "Why not go to Hudson's Bay Country" with Mr. Keith Wise winning 2nd place for his essay "Race in the Atlantic World:Scottish Enlightment Views On Race and their Influence at Home and Abroad". The competition was open to students of SFU HIS 448 overseen by Director of SFU Scottish Studies Dr. Katie McCullough. PhD. St. John Ambulance Cadet Corps (New Westminster) The Fraser Highlanders donated $300 to the St. John Ambulance Cadet Corps in New Westminster. to help fund uniforms and training for the St. John Ambulance Cadet Corps this month. The Fraser Highlanders Adjutant joined Hon. Col. Westminster Rgmt Karen Baker-McGrotty of the Westminster Reg’t with members of the St. John Cadet Corps. First established in Quebec 1884, St John Ambulance provides Health and safety training and volunteer community services
